- Hogan Construction Area:
Oso Vista Ranch has built a traditional Navajo female Hogan under the direction of medicine man, Howard Adeky. The female Hogan is an eight-sided log structure with a single door to the east, a domed ceiling and smoke hole in the center of the roof. (see Wikipedia definition)

Oso Vista provides this Hogan to the Ramah Navajo and global community for spiritual, physical and cultural healing. For Navajo people, the traditional log structure, called the Hogan, is the center of healing, life-teaching, spiritual connection and cultural identity. With the introduction of HUD houses and mobile homes, it has been 15 years since a traditional Navajo Hogan has been built for the Ramah Navajo community.
This disconnect from cultural and spiritual identity is directly related to a dramatic rise in domestic violence, addictive behavior and despair. Closing the Health Disparity Gap, states; “Native Americans” “suffer the greatest burden of health disparities in New Mexico.” Oso Vista Ranch proposes to help close that gap by assisting the Ramah Navajo community in building 6 Hogans during 2008. Through this cultural preservation project we will also mentor the community in the creation of sustainable entrepreneurial projects.
